How a place gets on the site

Everything on Trip Under is chosen for being underrated relative to how good it is — quieter, cheaper, and equally rewarding compared to the obvious alternative, which is why every destination carries an "instead of" line naming that alternative. A place that's already saturated with content (Goa, Manali, the Taj Mahal) doesn't get added, no matter how good it is, because the gap Trip Under is trying to fill is places nobody's written up properly yet.

How the costs are worked out

Every guide breaks a trip into the same line items — transport there and back, a bed each night, food, local transport, entry tickets — for a shoestring and a comfortable version of the same trip. Nothing is a single "starting from" number with no breakdown.

Transport is priced as a one-way fare per person, checked against typical operator pricing for that route and mode, then doubled for the round trip that a real visit needs.
Stay and food are priced in tiers (dorm to private room; thali to café plate) based on typical rates for that specific area, not a national average.
Every cost breakdown states its assumptions — party size, number of nights, starting city, and what's included — rather than leaving them implicit.
Figures are ballpark ranges checked against real pricing, not live API quotes — prices move with season and demand, so every guide links straight to where you'd check the current live fare and book it yourself.

Photos

Photographs are sourced from Wikimedia Commons and a small number of other licensed sources, used under each photo's original licence. Every photo used anywhere on the site is credited, in full, on the photo credits page — photographer, licence, and a link back to the original file.

Independence

Trip Under is not a travel agency. It doesn't sell packages, doesn't book trips, and takes no commission on any booking made through a link on the site — every "book it" link goes straight to the real operator (a bus company, a hotel platform, an airline) at the price you'd get going there directly.

Corrections

Fares move, places close, and mistakes happen. When something's wrong, it gets checked against its source and fixed — see the corrections page for how to report one and what happens after. Pages that get corrected have their "updated" date changed to reflect it.

One person — Gokul. No editorial team, no freelance network. Every guide on the site is researched and written by the same person; see the About page for more.

This page describes the standard, not a guarantee of perfection. A one-person site with 85 destinations, 51 treks and 27 circuits will have things that drift out of date faster than they get caught. If you find one, report it.
