Hoysala temple trail — Belur, Halebidu & Somanathapura
The Hoysala dynasty's temples are famous for a level of stone carving unmatched almost anywhere else in India — friezes of elephants, dancers and mythology wrapped around star-shaped platforms. Belur's Chennakeshava Temple, Halebidu's Hoysaleswara Temple (16 km apart) and the smaller, quieter Somanathapura Keshava Temple together make a full but deeply rewarding day of close-up stone carving.

1–2 days, from Mysuru or Hassan, from ₹2,500 per person. Best time: October to February for comfortable sightseeing. Weekdays keep the three temples far quieter than weekends.. Suits: Family, Solo, Couple.

Where to stay
Hassan is the standard base for Belur and Halebidu, with Mysuru a good alternative if adding Somanathapura and Shravanabelagola to the loop.
Food
Hassan and Belur have simple Karnataka meals houses; nothing fancy, but reliable.
Local tip: Somanathapura is smaller and quieter than the other two — if you only have time for one, Belur and Halebidu are the essential pair, but don't skip Somanathapura if your route allows it.
