Kudremukh
Kudremukh means 'horse face', for the shape of its peak, and the national park around it is one of Karnataka's last major stretches of unbroken shola-grassland Western Ghats wilderness.

Kudremukh is both a small hill town and a national park protecting one of the largest remaining stretches of tropical evergreen and shola-grassland ecosystem in the Western Ghats — source of three major rivers, including the Tunga and Bhadra. The area has a complicated conservation history, with iron-ore mining only recently wound down, which keeps visitor numbers and infrastructure genuinely limited. It rewards those willing to travel a bit further than Chikmagalur's more developed estates.

When to go
