Madurai and Rameswaram are made for one trip: three hours apart, both temple towns, both best seen at dawn. The mistake most people make is arriving at a temple at noon, when both close for the afternoon. This plan avoids that and keeps the travel to two overnight trains and one short hop.

Temple hours below come from the temples' official HR&CE sites. Train and bus details come from timetable aggregators and news lists, so confirm them on NTES before you book. Costs come from Trip Under's Rameswaram & Madurai page.
