Foundations were laid in June 2010, and it was the first official gurdwara in the Gulf. The Guru Granth Sahib is installed in the Darbar Sahib, kirtan runs through the day, and the langar serves a free vegetarian meal to everyone who comes, whatever their faith.

Visiting with respect

  • Cover your head and take off your shoes before entering the Darbar Sahib.

  • Ask before photographing anyone at prayer or eating; the UK FCDO warns that photographing people without permission can lead to arrest in the UAE.

Travel advice: The UK FCDO (page updated 24 Jul 2026, still current 18 Oct 2026) does not advise against travel to the UAE, but warns of Iranian strikes across the region since 8 July and flight disruption at short notice. Dubai authorities closed the gurdwara and other non-Muslim places of worship in March–April 2026 during the conflict; check gurudwaradubai.com for any new notice before you go. Midday heat from May to September is fierce on the walk from the taxi or bus stop; go early or late.

Hours and rules can change for festivals and services. Check the official site on the day.

Where to stay and eat

Stay

The gurdwara says it has no accommodation for visitors. Dubai hostel dorm beds run from about USD 7–15 (₹665–1,425) a night and private budget rooms about USD 38–48 (₹3,610–4,560), per recent hostel guides; Al Barsha, Bur Dubai and Deira have most of them, all on the metro.

Food

The langar is free and vegetarian, served from early morning to late evening; you sit with the sangat and volunteers serve. Elsewhere in Dubai an inexpensive restaurant meal is about AED 47 (₹1,215) per Numbeo (October 2026); Indian vegetarian thalis in Karama and Bur Dubai are the best value.

Local tip: Time your visit for a meal and eat in the langar with the sangat: it is free, open to every visitor, and the clearest way to see what the gurdwara is for.
