Hatta is the part of Dubai that has no skyline. It sits in the Hajar Mountains near the Oman border, about 90 minutes from the city, around a dam lake you can paddle and a restored mountain village you can walk for free. The RTA H02 express bus runs from Dubai Mall every two hours, and a AED 2 hop-on bus links the dam, the Wadi Hub and the heritage village. A day trip works; one night lets you hike at dawn before the heat. Most outdoor activities run 1 October to 5 May only.

Mistakes to avoid
- From May to September it is 40°C+ and most activities close. Even in April, finish hikes by 10 am and carry far more water than you think.
- Heavy rain causes sudden floods in the wadis. Check the National Centre of Meteorology forecast, stay out of wadi beds when rain is forecast, and follow police closures.
- The UK FCDO (updated 24 July 2026) warns of possible regional strikes and flight disruption across the Middle East and says terrorists are likely to try to attack in the UAE. Follow local authorities and keep your departure plans flexible.
Ways to spend less
- The AED 25 H02 bus plus AED 2 hops gets you round every sight without a car.
- Bring a tent: a AED 129 weekday pitch for up to five is the cheapest night in Dubai.
- Go on a weekday. Pitches cost less, kayaks are free of queues, and the trails are empty.
