Musandam is the Omani tip of the Strait of Hormuz, cut off from the rest of Oman by UAE territory. Its khors (fjords) are where you take the dhow cruise you would otherwise do in Dubai, but here the boat passes fishing villages reachable only by sea and stops for a swim at Telegraph Island. Khasab is the base. From Dubai it is about 190 km by road through Ras Al Khaimah and the Al Darah/Tibat border, or a weekend-only RAKTA bus from Ras Al Khaimah. Two days covers a cruise and the Jebel Harim drive. Come between November and March; summer highs average about 38°C.

When to go
November to March is the season: average highs of 24-29°C and sea around 23-28°C. From May to September average highs sit at 36-38°C with 55-60% humidity, which makes the heat hard to bear on deck or on a mountain track. National Ferries reports its Musandam peak demand from November to February, so book rooms early for winter weekends.

Mistakes to avoid
- Musandam sits on the Strait of Hormuz. UK travel advice (updated 27 Oct 2026) does not advise against travel to Oman but says the risk of sudden regional escalation is high, and Khasab flights were suspended for months in 2026. Check the current situation before you go.
- Summer is very hot: average highs of 36-38°C from May to September, with sea humidity. Avoid midday on deck or on the mountain road, and carry water.
- Entry rules depend on your passport and residency. Oman's foreign ministry (updated 22 Sep 2026) lists 14-day visa-free entry for 100+ nationalities with conditions; Indian passport holders qualify only with a valid US, UK, Canada, Australia, Schengen or Japan visa or residence. UAE residents' visa on arrival was reported at OMR 5 in May 2026. Check the current rules on the Royal Oman Police eVisa site.
Ways to spend less
- The RAKTA bus to Khasab is AED 50 (₹1,293) each way, with no car, insurance or tour transfer needed.
- A shared half-day dhow cruise at AED 150 includes Khasab pick-up, drinks, fruit and a swim stop.
- Fill the Jebel Harim jeep with five and it drops to about ₹3,620 each; Khor Najd and the Corniche cost nothing.
