Srirangam & Trichy
The largest functioning Hindu temple complex in the world, with seven concentric walls and 21 gopurams, sits on an island in the Kaveri. Nearby are the water-element Shiva temple at Thiruvanaikaval, the Rockfort's 437 steps and the Samayapuram Mariamman temple. Trichy's airport and rail links make it the easiest temple trip in Tamil Nadu.
