Kannur Theyyam trail
Theyyam is a living ritual performance found almost nowhere outside northern Kerala's Kannur and Kasaragod districts: performers undergo hours of elaborate costume and makeup before becoming, in local belief, a vessel for the deity itself. It is performed at village shrines (kavu) through the cooler months, on a schedule set by each shrine's own tradition. This is not a circuit with fixed stops — it's a plan for finding and respectfully attending a real performance.
