Vagamon Nearest Railway Station: Kottayam, the Trains and the Bus Up the Hills
Vagamon, the meadow-and-pine plateau in Idukki, has no railway. The nearest station is Kottayam, about 63 km away, and the Ernakulam stations are about 104 km. Here are the trains and fares by class, and the KSRTC buses that climb from Kottayam through Pala and Erattupetta.

Short answer
Vagamon has no railway station. The nearest is Kottayam (KTYM), about 63 km by road. From Bengaluru the daily 16526 Kanyakumari Express leaves KSR Bengaluru at 20:10 and reaches Kottayam at 08:22, about ₹400 Sleeper, ₹1,060 3A. From Thiruvananthapuram the 20634 Vande Bharat reaches Kottayam at 07:18 (chair car about ₹560). From Kottayam, KSRTC buses climb to Vagamon through Pala and Erattupetta.
Vagamon is a cool plateau of grass meadows, pine forest and tea, an easy hill escape in central Kerala. There is no railway in Idukki district, so you come by train to Kottayam and finish by bus up the hills.

On 6 November 2026 we read the lowest fare per class on ConfirmTkt's route listings for travel on 7 November, checked times on erail, and re-ran road distances with OpenStreetMap routing to Vagamon. The bus up to Vagamon
KSRTC buses run between Kottayam and Vagamon via Pala and Erattupetta. A bus-timings blog updated in May 2026, which calls its times estimates, lists about 12 buses a day from Vagamon to Kottayam (06:40 to 21:45) and 22 a day to Erattupetta, plus a few to Ernakulam. It gives departures from Vagamon only, and we could not confirm the fares or the Kottayam departure times, so check at the Kottayam KSRTC stand. Taxi fares were not confirmed either.
From Bengaluru, KSRTC Kerala runs evening buses to Kottayam (17:30 to 19:20, about 11.5 hours); we only found fares for the other direction, about ₹1,211–1,411.

A budget room in Vagamon town is about ₹1,000 a night and an estate stay about ₹2,200. Kerala meals are about ₹90. Two days from Bengaluru by train and bus come to about ₹4,100 per person on a shoestring and ₹5,900 mid-range, return train included.
