Vagamon
Rolling meadows, pine forest and tea estates at 1,100 m, with none of Munnar's queues and a paragliding season most visitors don't know about.

Vagamon is three landscapes in one small plateau: open grassy meadows, a planted pine forest, and Kerala Forest Department and private tea estates. It has none of the fame or the traffic of Munnar, despite being just as green. February and March bring a paragliding season, run from the Vagamon Kurisumala meadow, that is genuinely worth timing a trip around.
Instead of Munnar's tea-country crowds. Works for everyone. Best months: Jan–Apr, Aug–Dec.
When to go
September to March is best. Paragliding season runs roughly February to March, weather permitting. The monsoon (June–August) is lush and misty but paragliding and some viewpoints close.

What goes wrong:
Paragliding runs only in its short official season and only in safe wind conditions; do not fly with an unlicensed operator.
The meadows have no shade and get hot by midday — go early or late.
The plateau's roads are narrow; ride or drive carefully around blind curves.
How to do it cheaper:
Time a visit for February–March if paragliding is the goal — check the season is actually open before you travel.
Stay on a tea estate for a fraction of what the same experience costs in Munnar.
Combine it with Kumarakom or Thekkady for a low-key Kerala loop that skips Munnar's traffic entirely.
