Boracay gives you one famous beach; Bohol gives you a white-sand strip at Alona on Panglao plus a whole island of things to do inland. The Chocolate Hills, the tarsier sanctuary at Corella and the Loboc river are all reachable by public bus from Tagbilaran's Dao terminal for under ₹150 a ride. Fly into Bohol-Panglao airport from Manila, or come over from Cebu on a two-hour fast ferry. Sleep in a Panglao dorm, eat at carinderias, and rent a scooter for a day to do the inland loop yourself instead of paying for a tour.

Mistakes to avoid
- UK travel advice (updated 15 July 2026) says about 20 typhoons hit the Philippines a year, mostly June to November, and boat accidents are more frequent June to December. Avoid overcrowded boats.
- The UK advises against all or all but essential travel to most of Mindanao, south of Bohol. Bohol is not affected, but do not take ferries onward to western or central Mindanao.
- Entry fees at the Chocolate Hills, tarsier sanctuary and Hinagdanan Cave differ between sources. Carry extra cash and check at the window.
Ways to spend less
- Doing the Chocolate Hills, Loboc and tarsiers by Dao-terminal bus or rented scooter instead of a tour leaves you paying only fares and gate fees.
- Eat at carinderias: rice and two dishes for about ₱80-150.
- If flights into Bohol are dear, fly to Cebu and take the ₱880 OceanJet ferry across.
