Camiguin is a round volcanic island in the Bohol Sea, small enough to ride around in a day on a 64 km ring road. Instead of one long party beach you get a sandbar (White Island), a marine sanctuary island (Mantigue), waterfalls, a cold spring, a hot spring and the ruins left by an 1870s eruption. Fly in from Cebu, or come by ferry through Bohol. Give it three nights: one day for the sea, one for the falls and springs, one for the ruins and the volcano side.

Mistakes to avoid
- If you come through Cagayan de Oro and Balingoan, you cross mainland Mindanao, where the UK FCDO advises against all but essential travel. Camiguin itself is exempt. Fly from Cebu or come via Bohol instead.
- Storms cancel ferries and sandbar boats with little notice. Keep a spare day before an onward flight.
- Mt Hibok-Hibok is an active volcano and needs a permit and guide. Check the current rules and fee locally before you plan the climb.
Ways to spend less
- Share the White Island and Mantigue boats. The boat is priced per boat, so four people pay a quarter each.
- Rent a scooter for one day and ride the whole ring road. That one day covers most of the island.
- Come via Bohol on the Jagna ferry and you see two islands for the price of the plane ticket.
