Coron in short: Go here instead of El Nido. Best months: Jan–Apr. One person spends about ₹2,000–₹5,800 a day on the ground, so 3 days cost about ₹6,000–₹17,400 before travel. The cheapest way in is bus (Manila (Genesis, Cubao) → Clark International Airport), about ₹525 each way.

Coron has the same karst cliffs and turquoise lagoons people go to El Nido for, plus things El Nido does not: Kayangan and Barracuda lakes inside Coron Island and a dozen Japanese wrecks in the bay. The town is a real fishing port rather than a resort strip, so dorms, canteens and tricycles stay cheap. Fly from Clark into Busuanga and take a shared van into town. Book joiner boat tours rather than a private boat and you can see the main lakes and lagoons for about ₱1,700 a day.

Why Coron, instead of El Nido: Limestone lakes you can swim in, sunken Second World War wrecks and a small working port town, at the quieter northern end of Palawan.
