Sibiu has the medieval Saxon old town and Carpathian backdrop people go to Brașov for, with its own airport and fewer tour groups. Piața Mare, Piața Mică and Piața Huet sit side by side, joined by stairs, passages and the cast-iron Bridge of Lies. The Brukenthal Palace and the ASTRA open-air museum are the two big paid sights at 50 lei (about ₹1,070) each. Fly direct into Sibiu and take city bus 11 for 3.5 lei, or ride the train from Bucharest in about five and a half hours. Two days covers the town; add a day for Cisnădioara or the fortified church at Biertan.
