Timișoara has the grand boulevards, cafes and recent history that people go to Bucharest for, packed into a centre you can walk end to end. Union Square, Victory Square and the Orthodox cathedral are a few minutes apart, and the Bega canal runs right past them. Fly straight into Timișoara (not in 2-22 November 2026, when the runway is shut) and take the 5-lei express bus; from Bucharest the train is long, at 10-12 hours. Two days is enough for the city; add a third for Arad or the Recaș vineyards.
