Wrocław has everything people queue for in Kraków: a huge medieval market square, Gothic churches, cheap pierogi and a student-city night life. It adds the Oder river, with its islands, bridges and the lamplit cathedral quarter of Ostrów Tumski, where a lamplighter still lights the gas lamps by hand at dusk. It is a big, easy, affordable city with good trains in every direction. Two or three days, more with day trips to the Silesian castles.
