Banasura Peak
The second-highest peak in the Western Ghats, named for the demon king Banasura of Hindu mythology. A steep but non-technical climb through grassland and shola forest, with views over Karnataka on a clear day.

How to reach it
Bus or taxi from Kalpetta to the Banasura Sagar Dam area, then a forest department checkpoint at the trailhead.
Permits
Forest department entry ticket at the checkpoint. Numbers are limited per day, and the trek closes without notice in bad weather — confirm it's open before you travel to the base.
Gear
Grip shoes, 2 litres of water, a cap and sun protection — much of the climb is open grassland.
