Kurangani – Top Station
A climb from the plains at Kurangani through grassland and forest to Top Station on the Kerala border. Treks now go only with forest department guides — the best way to do it, and the only legal one.

1–2 days, Moderate grade, up to 1,880m. Best season: Oct–Jan. Base: Kurangani village, 15 km from Bodinayakanur. Suits: Solo, Group.
How to reach it
Bus from Theni to Bodinayakanur, then a local bus or jeep to Kurangani. Top Station is on the Kerala side, above Munnar.
Permits
Guided treks only, with forest department permission. After the fatal forest fire of March 2018, unguided treks here were banned. Book the current Kurangani trails through Trek Tamil Nadu (trektamilnadu.com), the forest department's official portal. Treks are closed in fire season.
Gear
Good trekking shoes, 3 litres of water, sun protection, and a warm layer if camping.
