The sunrise-above-the-cloud photograph that every Bengaluru feed carries in December. Go on a weekday; at weekends the ghat road is a car park by 5 am.
Half day, Easy grade, up to 1,478m. Best season: Oct–Feb, Jun–Aug. Base: Bengaluru, 60 km. Suits: Solo, Group, Family.
How to reach it
KSRTC bus from Majestic to Nandi Cross, then a shared jeep up the ghat road. Skandagiri is a separate night climb from Papagni Mutt.
Permits
None for Nandi Hills — entry ticket at the gate. Skandagiri night treks have been restricted at times; check the forest department's current position.
Gear
Trainers, a litre of water, a head torch for the Skandagiri night climb.
