Murudeshwar
A 37-metre Shiva statue looks out to sea from a rocky headland, with a working beach town around it that never became a party circuit.

Murudeshwar's giant Shiva statue, on a promontory jutting into the Arabian Sea, is visible for kilometres and makes the town an easy stop between Gokarna and Karnataka's northern coast. Unlike Gokarna, it never developed a backpacker beach-shack identity — it's a working temple town with a proper beach, a functioning fishing harbour, and a train station on the coastal Konkan line.

When to go
October to February is clearest and coolest. The monsoon (June–September) brings dramatic surf but is not ideal for the beach or the temple gopuram climb.
