Ponmudi ('golden peak') is the hill station closest to Thiruvananthapuram, reached by a spectacular 22-hairpin ghat road through reserve forest. It's small — a handful of viewpoints, a couple of short trails, and tea gardens run by the Kerala Forest Development Corporation — but its closeness to the capital makes it an easy add-on rather than a destination that needs its own trip.
A hill station an hour from the capital. Works for everyone. Best months: Jan–Apr, Aug–Dec.

September to March is clearest. The monsoon brings heavy mist and rain, beautiful but limits visibility on the viewpoints.
