Ten hairpin bends into orange and coffee country, a viewpoint locals call 'the Kashmir of Kerala', and almost nowhere to stay — on purpose.

Nelliyampathy sits above Palakkad, reached by a winding forest road through the Nelliyampathy Reserve Forest. It has orange, coffee and cardamom estates instead of a town centre, and deliberately limited tourist infrastructure — the forest department restricts new construction to protect the elephant corridor the road runs through. That means small numbers, real quiet, and views from Seethargundu that are genuinely some of the best in the southern Western Ghats.
A hill station without a single big hotel chain. Best for solo travellers, couples and groups. Best months: Jan–Apr, Aug–Dec.
When to go
October to March is the clearest window. Oranges are harvested around December–January. The monsoon (June–September) is very heavy here and some sections of road can be restricted; check conditions ahead.
