Short answer
For November as a couple, go somewhere underrated that is at its best this month: Zuluk for Kanchenjunga at sunrise, Tawang for the mountain road, the Rann of Kutch for the first full moon of Rann Utsav (23–25 November), Majuli for the Raas Mahotsav, Bundi for palaces, and Gokarna, Chikmagalur or Marari for an easy beach or hill weekend. Mid-range, the cheapest works out at about ₹5,400 each (Gokarna, from Bengaluru or Mangaluru).
The best couples trip is not the famous honeymoon town. It is the place with the same view and less of the noise. Every place on Trip Under names the famous place it replaces, and every one is scored for how well it suits a couple. We kept only places rated good or best for November and scored 4 or 5 out of 5 for couples.
Costs are per person when two of you travel together, mid-range unless stated: a private room shared, local restaurants, buses and autos, and all entry fees, by the overland route from the city named and back. Couples pay less each than a solo traveller, because the room splits.

The eight places

1. Zuluk & the Old Silk Route
Instead of Gangtok. Thirty-two hairpin bends stacked up a mountainside, a village of 36 homestays, and Kanchenjunga at sunrise from Thambi.
In November: October and November give the clearest Kanchenjunga views. Sunrise at Thambi View Point, with 32 hairpins below you, is the moment.
Pick this if you want one dramatic sunrise and a quiet homestay.

2. Tawang
Instead of Gulmarg. India's largest monastery on a ridge at the end of a two-day mountain road, over a 4,170 m pass with a frozen lake beside it.
In November: Late September to November is one of the two clear, dry windows. The record's tip: late October or early November, for clear skies and open roads.
Pick this if you have a week and want a real journey together.

3. Rann of Kutch & Bhuj
Instead of Jaisalmer. A salt flat white to the horizon, a full moon over it, and a craft village where the mud houses are painted by hand.
In November: Rann Utsav opens on 1 November 2026, and the first full-moon window of the season is 23 to 25 November. Moonlight on the salt is why people come.
Pick this if you want a full-moon night on a white desert.

4. Bundi & Kumbhalgarh
Instead of Jaipur and Jodhpur. A blue town under a palace full of the best murals in Rajasthan, and a fort wall thirty-six kilometres long two hundred kilometres south.
In November: October to March is the season. April to June routinely passes 45°C, so autumn and winter are the time for the forts and stepwells.
Pick this if you want palace murals, stepwells and a haveli room.

5. Majuli
Instead of a Kaziranga day trip. A river island the size of a city, reached only by ferry, with monastery communities that have been performing dance-drama since the sixteenth century.
In November: The Raas Mahotsav in November is the island at its most extraordinary: the satras perform dance-drama that goes back to the sixteenth century.
Pick this if you want something neither of you has seen before.

6. Gokarna
Instead of North Goa. Five beaches strung along a cliff walk, a working temple town at one end, and rooms at half what Goa charges in the same week.
In November: November to February is dry and warm. Five beaches are joined by a free cliff walk, and rooms cost about half of Goa's in the same week.
Pick this if you want a beach trip without North Goa.

7. Chikmagalur
Instead of Coorg. Karnataka's highest peak, the estate that grew India's first coffee, and homestay rates a third below Coorg's for the same mist.
In November: November to February is dry and cool. It is busy at weekends, and weekend rates are routinely double weekday rates for the same room, so go midweek.
Pick this if you want a coffee-estate homestay and misty mornings.

8. Marari Beach
Instead of the Goa beach belt. A quiet fishing village beach near Alleppey where the catch comes in by hand-pulled net at dawn, and the loudest thing on the sand is the surf.
In November: November to February is best for swimming and clear skies. At dawn the catch comes in by hand-pulled net.
Pick this if you want a slow beach with nothing to do.

- Zuluk: Indian citizens need a Protected Area Permit, collected at Rongli (closed Sundays). Foreign nationals are not currently allowed. Only Sikkim-registered taxis may go up.
- Tawang: Indian citizens need an Inner Line Permit from eilp.arunachal.gov.in before Bhalukpong. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit through an approved tour operator.
- Rann of Kutch: the White Rann permit is ₹100 per person over 12, bought online by Indian nationals.
- Majuli: the last ferry off the island leaves mid-afternoon. Photography inside satra prayer halls is often not allowed, so ask.
- Gokarna: a pilgrimage town. Beachwear in the temple streets causes real offence.
Which one for the two of you?
Five ways to make it cheaper for two
- Travel midweek. In Chikmagalur, weekend room rates are routinely double weekday rates.
- Fill the car on mountain roads. On the Zuluk and Tawang roads the taxi is the main cost. Share it with another couple.
- Pick a homestay over a resort. At Marari and in Kutch, homestays and bhungas are the real budget option.
- Book the peak nights first. The Kutch full moon sells out first. Book that bed, then everything else.
- Book each piece yourself. Trip Under is not an agency. The train, the room and the taxi are each booked direct, with no package mark-up.
